Virtual machine

Install on a Linux host and run it as a system service.

Full guide in the docs

Who this is for

Teams that manage hosts rather than containers: data centres, bare metal, or environments where container platforms are not approved.

Prerequisites

  • A supported Linux distribution and a user with sudo.
  • A separate disk for the data directory, sized for your retention.
  • The console port and the ports of the sources you collect from, open on the host firewall.

Steps

  1. 1

    Download the installer

Use the URL shown under Downloads in your workspace.

    shell
    curl -O <download-url>
  2. 2

    Install the package

Run the installer for your platform.

    shell
    sudo <install-command>
  3. 3

Set the data directory and the license key

Point the data directory at the disk you prepared and add the key to the configuration file.

    text
    Config file: <config-path>
    <data-setting>=<data-path>
    <license-setting>=<your-key>
  4. 4

    Enable and start the service

Start the service and confirm it is running.

    shell
    sudo systemctl enable --now <service-name>
    sudo systemctl status <service-name>
  5. 5

    Open the console and register

Open the console on the host and the console port. Complete the first-run screen, then register the deployment in your workspace so it can be licensed and tracked.

  • Supported operating systems and installer format per product.
  • Download URL, install command, configuration path and setting names.
  • Service name and console port.

Next: register, license, usage

  • Register the deployment

Connect the node to your workspace so it can be licensed and tracked.

  • Get an evaluation license

Attach the evaluation license and its XMC AI tokens to the deployment.

  • Next steps

Bring in data, watch usage, automate with the API.
