Virtual machine and bare metal
Install an XPLG product directly on a Linux host that you manage.
What you will do: install a product on a Linux host, run it as a system service and connect it to dock.
Choose this path when you manage hosts rather than containers, for example in data centres or in environments where container platforms are not approved.
Prerequisites
- A supported Linux distribution and a user with
sudo:
Supported OS: <placeholder>
- CPU, memory and disk from Sizing and capacity planning. Put the data directory on its own disk.
- Open the console port and the ports used by the sources you plan to collect from.
Steps
- Download the installer for your platform from Downloads in your workspace, or with the URL shown there:
curl -O <placeholder-download-url>
- Install it:
sudo <placeholder-install-command>
- Point the data directory at the disk you prepared:
Config file: <placeholder-config-path> Setting: <placeholder-data-setting>=<placeholder-data-path>
- Enable and start the service:
sudo systemctl enable --now <placeholder-service> sudo systemctl status <placeholder-service>
- Open the console on the host and the console port, complete the first-run screen and register the deployment.
Clusters
To form a cluster, install the same version on every host and join each node to the first one from its console or configuration. Keep the hosts on the same network segment or make sure the cluster ports are open between them.
Operations
- Logs: service logs through
journalctl -u <placeholder-service>and the product's own log directory. - Upgrade: install the new package over the old one; see Upgrades.
- Backup: stop the service or use the product export, then copy the data directory.
