Apps

XpoLog Apps package thousands of dashboards and rules per technology; custom app wizards build your own.

What you will do: install an App for a technology you collect, and build a custom App for one you do not find.

An App is a package of dashboards, searches and monitoring rules for one technology — a web server, a database, an operating system, a cloud service. XpoLog ships thousands of dashboards and rules through Apps, so the first useful view of a new source is an install, not a build.

Steps: install an App

  1. Open the Apps catalogue in the XpoLog console:
Console path: <placeholder>
  1. Search for the technology and open the App.
  2. Choose the sources the App should run on. The App expects the fields its parser produces; if the source was parsed out of the box, the mapping is automatic.
  3. Install. Dashboards appear under the App's name; monitoring rules are installed disabled so you can review thresholds before enabling them.
  4. Open a dashboard and confirm the panels fill in over the next few minutes.

Custom App wizards

When no App exists for a source, the custom app wizard builds one from your data:

  1. Pick the source and let XpoLog propose fields and a parser.
  2. Choose the panels you want: counts over time, top values, error tables, latency distributions.
  3. Choose the rules you want from the proposed set.
  4. Name and save the App. It can be exported and installed on other deployments.

Managing Apps

  • Apps are versioned; updates arrive with GA releases and can be applied per App.
  • Disable an App to pause its rules without deleting its dashboards.
  • Permissions on Apps follow the roles set in the XpoLog console.
