How licensing works

Licenses per organization and deployment, evaluation versus subscription, and the units each product is measured in.

What you will do: understand what a license covers, which unit your product is measured in and how an evaluation turns into a subscription.

One organization, many deployments

Licenses belong to your organization and are attached to deployments. A license covers one product on one deployment for a term, with a capacity in that product's unit. The Licenses page in your workspace lists every license with its deployment, units and expiry; Usage shows consumption against it.

Evaluation versus subscription

  • Evaluation — time-limited, sized for a trial, issued by XPLG on request from the workspace. Includes an allocation of XMC AI tokens so AI features can be tried. See Get an evaluation license.
  • Subscription — a paid term of 12, 24 or 36 months with the capacity you choose, bought from XPLG or through a cloud marketplace. Includes upgrades and GA updates and support under the support terms.

Moving from evaluation to subscription does not change the deployment; the new license replaces the evaluation license on the same registration.

Units per product

  • XpoLog — GB/day of ingested data. Production (PROD) and non-production (NONPROD) deployments are licensed separately, so a test cluster does not consume production capacity.
  • PortX — streams and daily volume: how many distinct flows you route and how much data per day passes through them.
  • XMC AI tokens — the unit consumed by AI-driven features across the products. An evaluation includes an allocation; subscriptions include or add token bundles.

What happens at the limits

Usage above the licensed capacity is visible on Usage and in the deployment's console. Contact sales or use Subscription to increase capacity; see Subscriptions and cloud marketplaces.

What happens at expiry

The license expiry is shown on Licenses, and the license.expiring webhook (see the API section once you sign in) can notify your tooling. After expiry the deployment keeps its data and configuration; licensed features stop until a new license is attached.
